Custom illustration series addressing user confusion around advanced cryptocurrency concepts like multisig wallets and DeFi lending through clear visual storytelling and educational graphics.

01. Problem

Analytics and support data revealed users were struggling with advanced crypto concepts like multisig wallets (requiring multiple device approvals) and our new Hodl Pay feature. They seemed too complex, and our existing illustrations were inconsistent across the platform.

02. Solution

I expanded BitPay's illustration library that FormFrom initially did for us following the established isometric line art style and color scheme, ensuring visual consistency while addressing specific educational gaps. The approach used familiar objects to explain challenging concepts, making advanced crypto features more approachable.

The most complex illustration was for Hodl Pay - showing how you borrow against holdings without spending the actual crypto. This required cross-team collaboration to define the visual metaphor that would make this counterintuitive concept clear.

03. Process

I identified knowledge gaps through analytics and support data, then interviewed people across the company to validate that illustrations accurately represented each concept. Working within FormFrom's established visual system, I created targeted illustrations that maintained brand consistency while filling specific educational needs.

The illustrations use progressive disclosure in marketing materials and learning content to engage users step-by-step through complex topics.

04. Impact

The illustrations reduced user confusion around complex features and elevated BitPay's brand aesthetic. They're now used across articles, reports, and marketing materials, creating a consistent educational language that makes sophisticated crypto concepts accessible to mainstream users. The visual system provides a scalable foundation for explaining future complex features.
