Complete in-app crypto debit card experience enabling users to convert cryptocurrency earnings to cash and spend instantly through physical and virtual Mastercard integration.
01. Problem
Crypto holders needed a fast way to cash out their earnings for everyday spending. Without an integrated solution, users had to go through complex external processes to convert crypto to spendable cash, creating friction between crypto investments and real-world purchases.
The market lacked crypto cards with seamless wallet-to-card conversion, especially ones that integrated the entire experience within the crypto app itself.
02. Solution
I designed an integrated card experience where users convert crypto to cash through the BitPay app, with those dollars loading onto their Mastercard for immediate spending. The system included both physical and virtual card options, all managed directly within the crypto wallet interface.
My design approach masked the backend complexity, making crypto-to-cash conversion feel as simple as traditional banking while maintaining the security and verification requirements.
03. Process
I created the complete user journey from KYC-required card application through daily spending management. The design integrated card functionality seamlessly with BitPay's existing crypto wallet experience, ensuring users could move fluidly between crypto holdings and cash spending.
The UX focused on making the crypto-to-cash conversion transparent and predictable while hiding the technical complexity of the underlying financial infrastructure.
04. Impact
Delivered one of the few integrated crypto-to-cash card solutions available at the time, running successfully for 2 years. The seamless wallet-to-card experience eliminated the friction crypto holders faced when trying to spend their earnings, bridging the gap between digital assets and everyday purchases through familiar debit card spending.
